You won’t want to stop reading this book. Successful marketing in the 21st century must go beyond what we used to call the mainstream. Toward the end, Pepper uses the phrase ‘cultural nuance,’ and that captures the spirit of this book. Her insights give marketers a fresh understanding of events all around us. I used What’s Black About It? in my multicultural and ethnic marketing course, but I’m switching, gladly, to Black Still Matters.

Pepper's book is timely, extraordinarily well researched, and it provides a deep understanding of the cultural dynamics and attitudes of the broad and diverse black consumer group! Use of these keen cultural insights as a basis in developing strategic marketing campaigns and advertising plans targeting this segment, will be critical to boosting sales and increasing loyalty with this key segment of an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Beyond quotes and statistics, Black Still Matters peels back the layers of not only Black American buying habits, but also the layers of our culture, our thoughts and motivations.
The conversation is clear and concise—not a wasted page. Beyond it’s industry significance, I found Black Still Matters to be the tour guide beyond the part of my Black America that is my little world. Yes, you met your objective and greatly increased my cultural IQ.
